Sanur
Stretching down the southeast coast just 18km northeast of Ngurah kai airport, SANUR is an appealing, more peaceful alternative to Kuta, with a long, fairly decent white-sand beach, lots of attractive accommodation in all price brackets and a distinct village atmosphere. There are plenty of restaurants and some bars, but the nightlife is pretty tame. A huge expanse of shore gets exposed at low tide and the reef lies only about l km offshore at high tide. The currents beyond the reef are dangerously strong, which makes it almost impossible to swim here at low tide, but at other times swimming is fine and water sports are popular. You’ll find Sanur's best sand in front of the Grand Bali Beach in north Sanur, and in front of the Sanur Beach in south Sanur.
Sanur's two biggest water sports operators are at the Grand Bali Beach in the northern part of the resort, and the Blue Oasis Beach Club at Sanur Beach in the south. They both rent out kayaks, windsurfers and jet skis, and do parasailing. Sanur is quite a good place to learn to dive, as the local diving sites are close by. All Sanur dive centres, including Bali international Diving Professionals and Crystal Divers, run certificated diving courses and one-day diving excursions (including tanks and weights only)
The only direct bemos to Sanur leave from Denpasar. Dark-green bemos from Denpasar's Kereneng terminal take fifteen minutes to north Sanur, where they will drop passengers just outside the Grand Bali Beach compound at the Ngurah Rai Bypass/Jalan Hang Tuah junction only if asked; otherwise, they usually head down Jalan Danau Beratan and Jalan Danau Buyan, before continuing down Jalan Danau Tamblingan to the Trophy Pub Centre in south Sanur. Direct dark-blue bemos from Denpasar's Tegal terminal run via Jalan Teuku Umar and Renon and then follow the same route as the green Kereneng ones, depending on passenger requests. Sanur is the main departure point for boats to Nusa Lenibongan, which leave from a jetty at the eastern end of Jalan Hang Tuah in north Sanur.
